Reading, PA has a long, sordid and storied history as a town with plenty of places to go during leisure time.
Once the bar capital of the United States, Reading also boasted one of the most active club scenes to be found anywhere.
But the jazz/swing era turned into rock and roll, and by the 1970's Reading's club scene was decaying and dying just like
the rest of the city.
Since then, local bands have faced an ever-changing landscape of performance locations. At times, the scene has
been quite good, drawing comparisons to Athens, GA. At other times, lack of places to play has stifled this scene
more than any other factor.
